Cave

This post is so very late, but hopefully things will clear up for me soon. I really liked the prompts this last month so I will probably create something with them sooner or later.

Crowded

Crowded, but cosy :-)

Not a new illustration, but I thought it fit the theme. I have been enjoying everyone's work this month, and I hope to join you all with more original work next month (maybe even post some ideas that I had for this month's prompts, but that I did not have a chance to finalize!)

Experiment

This is very late, but better late than never, I guess. This silly girl is experimenting with her food. I wonder how her parents feel about this experiment.

The Dream Crowd

This digital watercolor, but first I hand draw and then scan it into my system
where I then use Corel to color it! I'd like to think that dream land is
crowded with happy children.

Music Lesson

Here is the 'Music lesson'.
I scanned this on my scanner, and I should have taken a photo with my camera. It seems to look a bit grainy here, but maybe that is just me.
I also have a cropped version, so the details can be seen.

Music Lesson

I had such fun with this word. Thanks Michelle. Thank God I
had a few moments for myself between the, "Honey I'm hungry
what's for dinner?", and the, Mommy I'm bored again and I've cut my finger!!!"
thingy. I don't know if I will get around to the full page spread for this month
just super busy right now which is good! Have a great day all you talented
people.

"Selkies & cave" II

The end of the story... ( maybe!)

Cave

Who wouldn't love a Great Dane Cave?! The more I work, the more I realize good paper makes a difference! The first image (girl pony-back riding Great Dane) was done on fairly thin hot pressed watercolor paper, and the color isn't working well. This image is on heavier medium-rough watercolor paper, and the color seems to work better. Does anyone else fight with their paper? I'm constantly trying to find just the right paper.

Experiment

I fell in love with a huge spotted Great Dane a week ago at the PAWS Mardi Gras parade! The owner was kind enough to let me take several photos, so I've been playing with using him as a character. His little rider is "experimenting" with a pony ride.

Cave

Right now I have this sketch- a fox getting cozy in his cave. I've been painting kids like crazy trying to get ready for a small conference this coming weekend, so my fingers were itching to draw an animal next. He does look rather comfy, doesn't he? Hopefully I'll be able to post all of the prompts by the end of the month. That selkies challenge is a brain-teaser, that's for sure!

Cave

The Hares loved Valentines day most of all. They could dress the family
cave like a delicious chocolate truffle and not worry about being eaten themselves.

Experiment

Jillian couldn't wait to use one of her Nana's magical peas in her science experiment at school.
Of course the experiment got out of hand and she and Tonya Witmoore floated out of class and were
never seen again. he he he!

Cave | Just a Sketch

I haven't been posting regularly, but I wanted to at least post the sketch for my idea for "Cave." This topic made me think of the one cave I would love to visit (though the real one is closed now): Lascaux, where one can see the most amazing prehistoric art.

That was my idea for a quick spot, done quickly in pencil. The next topic is coming up soon, so I'll try to post a finished piece for it!

MIA

Hi everybody. January was not kind with me. I know I've been gone awhile, but I have a very good reason. A simple medical procedure on January 29th went horribly, terribly wrong landing me in ICU for 3 days. I spent another 7 days in the heart and lung recovery wing of the hospital until I was released last Saturday. I am slowly regaining my strength, but it is an uphill climb and it will be several months before I am back to my old self.

I must be getting better though, because my fingers have started itching to draw again. Getting the rest of the body to cooperate is still a struggle. Soon, though, I hope to be able to sit at the drafting table long enough to work through a painting.

Cave revised

I couldn't stand it. I just had to fix the back of the crate. Ahhhh.....much better. While I was at it, I added some shadows onto the floor, being cast by the crate door. I also toned down the left side of the crate, near the top of the painting. Keeping the higher/lighter area, nearer the dogs face, creates a place for the viewer's eye to flow and rest. Which is on those cute brown eyes looking up at us. Would love to hear other's thoughts on this painting.
I'm in the process of doing an illustration of the monthly challenge, The legend of the silkies... oh, I probably haven't spelled that right. I apologize if I haven't. I don't have my reference visible to me at the moment.
I hadn't heard of this legend before and found it to be very fascinating and fun. I must say I am having fun working on the illustration.

Cave Illustration

This is my watercolor illustration for the week of February 8 - 14th. Theme this week is 'Cave'.
So here is my rendition of 'Cave'. I used my dog as a model. My dog is black, but I thought some spots would lend to some fun colors and play.
I am always saying to my dog, when putting my boys to bed, "get into your cave". One particular night my dog Chandler was waiting, hanging out in his 'cave' waiting for my teen son to come to bed. I took a whole bunch of photos and loved this one best, with his eyes looking up at me.

I then came to this Blog and saw the theme 'Cave' and I thought of this image! I didn't have much time this week slotted out for this exercise. So, this painting was started this morning. There are things in it that I would love to fix. Like the back of the crate. Things aren't lined up the way I would like back there and more detail would be put into the whole piece. But all in all, I like what transpired in just a few hours time. This may lend itself well, for a more finished piece at some point.

The Legend of the Selkies

Here the little girl watches as the mysterious woman seems to converse with the seals. How is it? Tips, suggestions? (Heather, I'm counting on you for feedback! :) )

I'm going to draw some other scenes too... stay tuned....

Experiment ... To the Moon or Bust!

Tommy wants more than anything to be rid of his pesky sister, Lucy. His experiment? First, send her dolls to the moon, and then bye-bye Lucy!

I had a lot of fun with this one, but I've got a question, what do you guys use as the color for a vast expanse of grass. I've yet to hit upon a color that I'm really satisfied with.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Um, yeah, I'm just a little excited....

Thanks so much for awarding me with the January 09 Spotted Bunny award! I'm so humbled by it because the illustrators in this group are so amazingly talented. I really enjoy participating each week, and I love the monthly challenges .... not only is it a great creative release for me, it has been such a great way to add new portfolio pieces, and of course to make new friends!

Thank you Monica for nominating me, and thanks Linda for inviting me to join the group in the first place! :)

Have a great day everyone... I know I will!
