Happy First Birthday

Alli was very fond of chocolate. When her mother put the cake in front of her, she didn't hesitate to dig right in.

Since some house cleaning was done with this anniversary, I'm going to post this on my blogs with a general invitation for watercolor children's artist to come over and join. 25 seems like a good number, and if I remember correctly we are a few short.

Please stop by my blog and let me know what you think of my daily doodle challenge. I've missed a few days here and there, but going into month two, I am still going strong!

Natalie's Monster Tails

When Natalie returned from her long summer vacation she'd
brought home more than Grandpa had bargained for.
Natalie explained that she had purchased the poor creatures
from a strange bubble gum machine in Lake Wood, NJ.
She told Grandpa that he needed to add on 3 more
rooms for the little darlings. hee he hee hee!
Happy Vacation ladies!!!

Family Reunion | Sketch

I was hoping to have this illustration done and posted on time, but I'm afraid I'm going to be late. But I wanted to at least share the sketch (rather dirty, I know!)

Lately I've been drawing a lot of bunnies, but when I saw the prompt for "Family Reunion" I couldn't resist. Say cheese, everyone! Or should it be carrot cake? :-)

family Reunion

Ray knew that his very americanized children would again try
to stir up trouble at the annual Hung family reunion. Even though
they said nothing, he could see and hear them plotting devilment
in their little heads. This time Aunt May and cousin Charlie
would truly get it in the end. hee hee hee!
Happy Wednesday everyone.

Hi guys!

Are any of you on Twitter? I'm finally getting my act together and signed up. I'd love to be in touch with other children's illustrators. If you are, and you're interested, I'm @mehenninger

I'm so sorry!

I really, really meant to catch up. Honest I did. I don't know how the time keeps slipping away from me. (Yes I do -- I am an internet junkie -- but we won't go there.)

I have even lagged behind in my daily doodle challenge. My blog is where I have been posting the doodles. Check it out and leave a comment, please, even if it's only to say you've been there.

The boy crying is today's daily doodle. There are three rules. I have to use a felt tip marker. There is no erasing of mistaken lines allowed. It has to be completed in 30 minutes or less.

PS. The white text on the dark blue background is too hard for my old lady eyes to read Can we change it to something else? Please?

Vacation Woes

Percy was Grassafield Zoo's most famous Cinnamon Bear. He came to the zoo when he was a cub, and he'd been there for well over ten years now. And for well over ten years now, he ate fish and berries each and every day. Percy was tired of eating fish, and berries. As a matter of fact, he was tired of watching people, watch him. He wanted to get out. He wanted go for a stroll and say "hi" to the neighbors he so very rarely saw. A "Good Morning Ma'am" to Barbara Giraffe, or "Top of the Morning to you Sir" to Nigel Hippo, both of whom had made him feel so welcome that first day when he was brought to the zoo.

So, when poor unsuspecting Shakia walked by with her "oh so yummy" cotton candy, and bright green balloon, Percy decided this was the time to make his move. With no zoo keepers in sight, he nimbly climbed over the wall, snatched her balloon , and started eating her cotton candy. Percy didn't have very good manners. Never did. In fact, there were a lot of things that Percy needed to learn about life on the outside.

We're getting ready to go on vacation and one of our stops is the National Zoo. I sure hope that we don't encounter a real live Percy snatching balloons and cotton candy from our hands! I'll be sure to say hi to Barabara and Nigel when we see them!

vacation for Bailey

Megan tried to explain to Bailey that there was just
not enough room in the car for him on this vacation.
This made him very sad. He had made plans and
packed his little green suitcase. Uncle Ray found
just enough room in the back for Bailey. It would
be the vacation of a lifetime.

HOT, HOT, HOT

Stacey Peterson couldn't believe her eyes. It was truly so hot that you could
fry an egg on the side walk. In her case the swimming pool deck!

Goldie Locks, Three Bears & A Tea Party!

ink pen, watercolor
This was created for Visual Storytellers, but I added some balloons to celebrate Watercolor Wednesdays!

Where I have been

Hi everyone,
I want to apologize for leaving you all hanging with no word from me in a couple weeks!
On June 27th, I lost my satellite internet connection. All out of my hands! I had no connection until Monday, July 6th in the evening. I was at the mercy of repair people.
I missed posting for a few of Junes challenges, but I will try to keep up now, as long as the satellite will allow...
I'm also in the thick of Booth/ Art show weekends for the summer.
I love everyone's images for June! You all did awesome!
