Summer Games

Hello,

I'm honored to join Watercolor Wednesdays, as I have been enjoying the blog for some time now. I have published one small children's book, Beaver Tales, for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and hope to do more.

Here is a little illustration of some bunnies having fun--soemthing they might do at a festival.

Happy Memorial Day!

More board book art

I've posted more art on my blog for a combination self promo piece and book dummy.
The book is a children's board book for kids from birth to 6 years old. You know, the thick cardboard pages that the young 'uns like to chew on.
Each image is a 2 page spread. Each spread features a bird of a certain color. Red Bird, blue bird, green bird,...
There will be 10 spreads in all and a wrap around cover.
I wanted to keep the art simple without being simple and flat.
Here's a peek...
RED BIRD

I have 9 more images posted on my blog     here.
I didn't want to take up too much space here.
There have been some great images being posted in the past weeks.
Sorry I haven't been able to comment on them. I'm liking what I'm seeing!
Keep it up!

Attitude is Everything

So sorry that I haven't been active with WaWe for awhile. I've been concentrating on drawing and creating fine arts. This image, Attitude is Everything, was recently accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America's International Exhibition. It will soon be mailed off to the show & will be juried another time--hope it makes it into the final jurored process! I've got several deadlines coming up & hope meet those deadlines. It's something that I promised myself I'd do--create more and enter competitions.

I teach full time & summer is finally here, so I'm going to my studio to work and work happily! Students can & do suck the life out of an artist, but it's my turn & I'm going to dig in. :)

Some thoughts: (1) Most of our members follow Illustration Friday (that's actually where I found most of you!), so if you'd like to link your image here, that would be great. It would bring in traffic & traffic is good. (2) I know we've had several requests for membership--if you're one of them, please re-send your info in comments to this post & Vanessa and/or I will get back to you ASAP. (3) Creative Cup has opened its membership--they're looking for serious illustrators who want to be a part of their critique group. You can visit them at http://www.creativecup.blogspot.com/ and leave a comment if you're interested.

Thanks Vanessa for keeping us going strong! We have a wonderfully creative site. Thanks to all of you for being a part of WaWe!

Outdoor Cat Festival - sruble

After I sketched this out, it occurred to me that Dr. Seuss had already drawn a cat wearing a hat. I decided to finish the picture anyway.

Cats Wearing Hats

These cats are obviously on their way to an outdoor festival. Why else would they be wearing hats? Please visit sruble.com to learn more about my art and projects, or my blog to see more recent art.

Outdoor mice market

Did you know that mice also go to the market, for some of them it's a bit overwhelming!

Waiting for Summer Holidays

Rupert P. Waddle could not wait for summer to officially begin. The neon sign that said "summer is here" was when Ms. Minerva Waddle, aka mama, brought out the little inflatable pool. WhooHooooo!!!!

Blue bird

It's wednesday, at least for the next 12 minutes, so I thought I'd post something I'm working on for self promotion.
This is one page of a board book concept. It's our basic color color book.
I'm in the process of painting the pages now. I have 7 done and 3 more to do, as well as some alternate pages to choose from.
This is the blue page.
The type is to make it clear what I'm doing. It will most likely change when I get feed back from the graphically inclined.
The finished size of the book is supposed to be 5" by 10" opened up. It will have rounded corners.

Mothers!

Mother Hare & Fern
© Diana Ting Delosh
ink & watercolor

My mom instilled in me the love for drawing and flowers. My Mom is the inspiration for the Mother Hare character and my daughter at age 5 is the basis for Fern Bunny. Happy Mother's Day to all.

Remembering My Mama

I remember her smile and
butter brown skin.
I remember the swishing sound of her
silk slips and girdles as she walked to the kitchen.
I remember her pink handbag and matching shoes.
I remember her Diva like attitude.
I remember spankings and long talk
about being a girl.
I remember Bible lessons and singing.
I remember candy sweets and cornbread dressing.
I remember a house so clean you could
eat off the floor.
I remember you iron fist in a velvet glove
I remember your awesome love.
I remember all this and more. I remember all this and more.
Happy Belated Mother's Day

Mother's Love

It's been quite a while since I posted, but here's a watercolor I did in honor of Mother's Day. I'm more used to using lines in my work, so this is a little outside my comfort zone.

Maypole Dance

This is old but I haven't been able to post in so long, I thought you all might have forgotten about me.

And in case you think I have been idle, here's the last 'painting' I did. It's done with acrylics on hardened leather.

Banner Art for WaWe

Thanks so much Dayle for the May banner art. I put this size up temporarily. It sure is a cutey--love the characters!
Gay has volunteered for the June banner & has already sent a beautiful image. Thanks Karen W. for volunteering--how about taking July?
If the banner goes all the way across, it's about 900 pixels wide or slightly over. Any takers for August, September, October, November, December?
Thanks everyone! We'll have the May challenges up soon.
