We may have a thief following our blog. "Chat You Tube" has posted to Pat's "Paper Angel" image & said thanks, that the art has been "useful," which implies that they used the art. He/she posted to Wendy's snowman image also & said that he/she had used her snowman image as his holiday card. That post is still there. I clicked on the link & it leads nowhere with no information. If anyone out there knows how to block an individual from posting or viewing work or from lifting work, please let me know. I would hate to have to limit the blog to only the members.

Rainbow Sun Shower - drawn using felt tip black pen, scanned onto Mac, coloured and texturised using Photoshop. The background was created using watercolours on watercolour paper which was then collaged into illo using Photoshop.

I really enjoyed creating this piece! It was actually created for illustration friday (this week) and was meant to have firecrackers in the background (Happy New Year...) but as per usual my direction changed midstream and it turned into a kid and her best dog sitting on a hill, watching a rainbow sun shower. Anyway, this illo made me feel really Happy and it is technically still the New Year?

Giving Thanks For Play Time

We are so privileged to have such a wonderful occupation.How much fun is it to illustrate or create stories for children (and adults)and spend our hours playing with the materials of our childhood; paint, pencils,paper and all sorts of crafty bits and pieces? Thanks Giving is not somethingwe celebrate in Australia but regularly I thank God for the life I have, forthe gift of creativity and the comfort of a studio space to explore my craft.

Think about it for a minute: image after image magicallyappears, creatively birthed into existence when once it was just blank paper orcanvas and paint or other media. Anything created to give Joy to others is somethingto be celebrated but I am thankful that I get to enjoy the process of creationas well as the result of it.

I am thankful for sketchbook journaling in between work. It is a great way to just have aplay.

This week I took some time off to enjoy journaling, notfussing over perfection, application or expectations of another viewer. It is a collection of random scribbling and collected moments in time. I had atotally indulgent play filling 3 pages and loved it. Sometime we forget why we startedillustrating in the first place – because it is FUN!

Hello Everyone !

It's been a awhile since I've posted on this blog. I've been working a lot in other mediums, so anyways here I post a work in progress I'm doing for my blog header , with the theme of the wonderful holidays coming up :)!!! I know i'm early but later on I will not have much time, so now is the time to attackkkkkk .... so here it is , oh and it's done in watercolour pencil by the way!
Their was a first attempt which i did mixed media, acrylic and watercolour pencil, i liked it but it was missing some volume I found. As a result I reworked it and this is what I came up with! Below you see the thumbnail version in the very begginning and then the first final attempt and then u see the really last attempt (but not finished yet).

Watercolor Wednesday monthly banner...

In the past, Watercolor Wednesdays had a new banner for each month--members would sign up for the month they wanted to illustrate. I'd love to see that happen again. Don't get me wrong, I love our banner & we'll keep Monica Carnesi's beautiful illustration as our logo (thanks Monica!), but I'd love to see more member interaction.

If you're interested in doing a particular monthly banner, please add a comment to this post and let me know what month you're interested in illustrating. It's first come, first serve. Oh...but, there's a little catch. The banner artist sets the challenges for the month (you'll send those to me via email, along with the image for the month a couple of days prior to the end of the month, then I'll post it all). It's not too late for someone to sign up for November!

What have I NOT been working on? This should be the question. I have been working like a mad woman possessed with my sketchbooks. The Sketchbook Project exploration pieces and folio work.

My blog and Facebook page is getting a good social hammering as I vent my creative enthusiasm while I rework my website. I feel exhausted just typing it.

This watercolour was created for the Illustration Friday theme "Scattered" and for my portfolio. I enjoyed it tremendously.

It’s been a strange winter here, hot n’ dry (more so than usual) and everyone’s feeling it…

This illustration comes from a personal, work-in-progress kids book. Sadly, it’s one of those back-burner projects. I like to mix things up a bit, this is watercolour and digital collage.

I have a fond memory of my younger cousin dropping the ball of vanilla ice cream off her cone onto the ground and then just picking it up and plopping it back on the cone. We never worried about germs and the five second rule-a little dirt never hurt anyone. This baby is a little upset with his first ice cream cone experience. I doubt his mother would pick it up and give it back to him these days?

This was inspired by the memory of some pictures I had seen of a baby who was having a wonderful time exploring the natural world without his parents worrying unnecessarily about dirt. I don't think there was actually a snail involved but what better when you are taking your time to really look at the world as little people do.

Hi Everyone! This is my first piece for Watercolor Wednesdays! I always try to make an excuse to pair kids up with animals in my pieces. I think they make people go "awwww!", and I like getting that sort of reaction. Hence, baby's guardian angel is a puppy modeled after my dog Gracie!!

Here is a closer up detail. Doggie has on her tag little wings designating her very important job, and also I made sure to position the swirl of the baby's hair to act as a halo for the doggie. :)

I havn't been able to post for quite some time as I have been working mainly in oil, digital and loads of sketching. I have this quickie I made for the kids this week in watercolour for a sleepover they are having at the end of the week. It is nice to do little originals for their happenings. I did paint it in my sketchbook so the paper quality is pretty adverage compared to using watercolour paper but it did the job. I added the text and a little of the paint in Painter but not much.

A Sister for Mongo!

So excited to share my newest book, A Sister for Mongo! Just finished and sent this little one to the states yesterday... wanted to share a couple of the illustrations. The story is about the family's dog, Mongo, and how he's getting a little sister... (the book is being presented to the mother-to-be/mother of Mongo at the baby shower this weekend!)

A little dog of a friend died last week and of course she and her husband are heart broken.

Toedoe was a stylish girl who died of old age.

She wore a pony tail in her hair, rhinestones on her collar and rarely left the house without being fully decked out.

Her up in heaven how can be anything but dolled up and heavenly.
