I did this sketch for Little and Big - but when I tried to paint it, all the action was lost and it came out dead. For example I tried painting that whirly shape behind them in a solid colour, but it just didn't work. In the end I decided to just post the sketch. Any advice??

Lovely sketch! Maybe if you would paint that whirly shape so that it would be lighter around the person and getting darker (more intensive color) when approaching the borders. (Sorry my poor english, I don´t know if this made any sense). Or make some patterns on it, stripes or something?
nice sketch--maybe the "swirly thing" could be lots & lots of loose line & the figures could be in color. It's a very good image.
Beautiful sketch with lots of life. Could you do it as a sort of line and wash illustration?
OOh I love it! I love it! I love it! Look at that action. It's going to be fabulous I can tell. Love the looseness. Great job.

What a splendid sketch! There's not much advice I can add except maybe: have you tried a wet-on-wet wash for the dynamic shape? It's not easy to control but the result is always interesting...
The sketch looks great, did you finish it in the mean time?? I have a lot of sketches laying around because I have the same problem sometimes!
This sketch is great. How about some wispy lines that are painted. That might show movement without being over bearing.
thanks heaps you guys. I have been away, so not done any more work on it ... but will come back to all these suggestions and promise to finish it and post it when I can!!
I love this, as is. Sometimes a great drawing isn't meant to be colored in.
If it were me, I would just give the lines a little more meat, and at the very most, wash in a little value.
Lovely sketch. I really love it. It is a great piece of art. Nice sketch of small kids and big person. I like to know more about sketch drawing. I think it is difficult than regular drawing.
