Artist's Choice - Stephanie Ruble
My choice this week was to do a painting of a football playing moose that I had sketched a couple of years ago (and had always wanted to do something with). Happy New Year!

Artist's Choice
I guess this one is one of my favs for 2010. I love doing trees and branches so it was fun to do so many in a different way. I am so looking forward to the New Year and starting some new projects.
Final piece of 2010.
Going to be painted soon. Unfortunately not in 2010. Drawing up thank you cards for New Years has taken up most of my time. I'll make sure I post it soon on my blog. Hope everyone had fun during the holidays! See you all in the new year!

Artist's Choice
Update: 12/26/10 Added cow and sheep for variety of shape and textures.
This week's assignment is the perfect opportunity to get some critiques on this landscape. Do you see any "awkward" parts? Is there a better way to arrange these hills? Your input will be very much appreciated. Thanks. *****http://carlaspicturebookadventure.blogspot.com/

All I Want For Christmas....
Merry Christmas, everyone at WaWe!!
Sorry I haven't visited for a little while - just been a bit snowed under (although not literally - unlike our UK members).
I hope you all have a great festive season, and look forward to catching you in 2011.
Winter Activities
Here is my submission for "Winter Activities". I have really been enjoying seeing everyone's creations and over the last year I have learned a lot about watercolors. I have also started a new blog and I have new goals which includes posting more often to Watercolor Wednesdays. I am looking forward to experiencing another year you awesome creative types!!!!
Winter / Christmas
The IF theme was "Mail" and I love to combine the themes with holidays. And it fits here to! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! ~Kathy

Winter Activities - Stephanie Ruble
I painted this image at the beginning of the month for the Winter Activities prompt. Then I got an email from Illustration Friday with the prompt for this week, Phenomenon, which I thought also worked for this painting. It would be a big phenomenon if penguins started to ice skate! Maybe they’d even start a penguin Olympics! Okay, probably not. Here’s my penguin skating with his birdie friends:

Winter Wildlife
So for this theme I thought my bird was the perfect choice. She is a tropical bird but I adopted her in December for my birthday. I just remember her being alone in a cage at the back of the room during a snowy day. Best pet ever.
Question: How to make a banner
Hello All,
What size should my watercolor painting be if I am using it for my blog banner?
Thanks in advance!

Winter Wildlife - Stephanie Ruble
I was thinking about a girl starting to make a snowman when I wondered what would happen if a baby polar bear crossed her path.
I'd like to think they might be friends, that is if the mama bear or the girl's mother are not around.

"You can do it, Melvin! Stand up to those big ole Meanies!" Melvin heard Mama's voice in his head. This time he would stand up to Thomas and Bart!

December challenges and banner
I thought I'd post the challenges and the banner in case anyone wants to start painting before they have a chance to update the site.
December Challenges
1-7: Snowmen (traditional or unusual)
8-14: Winter Wildlife
15-21: Winter Activities
22-31: Artist's Choice To End The Year
The December banner (which inspired the first challenge) of snowmen made out of sand. It's snowing at the beach, which is hard to see in the small version, but will hopefully show up when the banner is live:

Thanksgiving
Here's another recipe for theydrawandcook holiday competition. Once again I used chickadees. (Ive been very obsessed lately :) I always loved cranberry chutney but I prefer baking so I made it into a pie!

Cold, autumn, winter, brrr etc.
Hi All,
Here is a smattering of wintry goodness. Even though we are heading into summer down here in Australia, these are the winters of childhood-- growing up in Montreal.
This is also my submission for They Draw And Cook's holiday recipe contest.
Hope you like! (the illustration, and the recipe! :)

Snow Dog - sruble
The Snow Dog image and haiku I did a few years ago seem to fit the topic this week:
Here’s the haiku, in case you can’t read it in the image:
Big white puppy dog,
Looks just like a polar bear,
Likes to hide in snow
I’ve always liked this big white puppy dog and polar bears too.
What’s your favorite animal that likes snow?

That time of year again?
Buurrrrrrrr...For most of us, this guy...He can take the harsh winters.
Many more wintery themes to come within the next month or so on my blog, so stop by I promise there will be plenty! Winter is my favorite time to paint.

Just Riding Around
When I was a kid I had a bike I just loved and somehow got my dog Louie to ride around in the basket. It was so much fun and we saw lots and lots of interesting things too.
Children Playing
When I was a kid, I used to love cardboard boxes. Making forts and houses, kitchens and cars and everything imaginable. With the coming holidays, I'm also reminded of how during the preparation of our holiday dinners, my siblings, cousins and I were often shooed outside during the day to play...and to stay out of the way of the adults!
Winter Fun
Thanks for the awesome inspiration. This started as an old illo that I completed for NJ SCBWI illustrator conference two years ago. I re-drew, re-painted and replaced some of the characters.

Let It Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow
There is something so very magical about the first season's snow.
All white, bright, clean and crunchy!
I love it.
To all my wonderful friends here at Watercolor Wednesdays
I wanted to let you all know that because of my scheduled
relocation and work schedule, that I won't be able to
participate in WAWE for a little while.
I have to take a break to catch my breathe and rest
for the long journey ahead. I will be back after some
rest and after things are settled.
I'll be by to visit of course. You talented Ladies
and Gentlemen are AWESOME!!!. Keep posting all your
fabulous work and encourage each others. Linda
I send you all my love my talented friend.
Everyone have a wonderful Holiday Season with
family and friends. Be blessed!
Sincerely,
Vanessa Brantley-Newton

The feelings of Fall
I did this one a while ago (last fall) but I still like it. I decided to put a border around it using photoshop. I used watercolor and then used colored pencil to get more detail in the work. Fall is such a nice time of year.

Autumn feeling
Here is an oldie but a goodie. It is of course Spring here in the southern hemisphere, but admittedly it still feels like Winter!
Hope you are enjoying Autumn/Fall in the north -- it really is one of my favourite seasons...
Oh, and just wanted to let you all know that I am having a giveaway on my blog for the release of my new children's book! Please visit! :) http://tinyurl.com/23pocmy
