Portal- A New Home and a hidden doorway

She snuck up into the dark attic of her new home with her dog buddy and found a small hidden doorway at the far end of the room.

Portal into Bear's "Dream a Little Dream" party

Bear longed to be a graceful ballerina. It didn't matter that he weighed 400 lbs and had two left feet.  He wanted to do Arabesques, and Chasses like the great ballet dancers before him.   Snake dreamed of living in Hawaii and dancing the Hula while the sun set on Kailua Beach, and little mouse wanted to be a cowboy like "The Duke."  Nobody messed with "The Duke."

At Bear's "Dream a Little Dream" party, they had the chance to live their dreams, unabashed, loud and strong, and they did, until Big Cy showed up at the door and all their dreams came crashing down with an embarrassed thud.

Portal to a paisley world - sruble

There's a world out there where everything is paisley, including the whales.

I made these digital prints, plus one of a whale from our world, for the Ripple Project (donated art is sold to help the animals in the gulf oil spill). Click here for more info or to purchase these images.

Portal to the Deep Blue Sea

To this day, nothing has driven me in my life and my work more than my love of the sea.

When I came to New York after graduating from Kahuku High School I couldn't sleep at night without the pounding of the waves on the sand. I longed for the Pacific the way I longed for my family. I am always homesick for the ocean.

Through every heart break, and every outside stress, through every personal and public tragedy I have faced, nothing ever heals me like the reassuring calm of the sea.

In all of this, I hurt to hurt the Ocean. I love the sea. I long for an end to the disaster in the gulf.

The oil spill's casualties are far reaching. We all need to do every little thing we can to protect our way of life and our sea life.

The mermaids are doing their fair share, it's up to us to do ours ;)

I reckon Galileo would have started out like this, don't you?

Wouldn't This Be a Wild Pet

A pronghorn antelope, one of my favorite animals...sorry it's late.

Strange Portals

My Not So Strange Pet

This is a work-in-progress of my newly acquired pet, Jazz, a paint mare! I'm so happy to back in "the saddle" after many years since last being a horsewoman. (Prismacolor on Stonehenge)

Hello!

Hi everyone!

Just thought I would introduce myself. I've just joined WaWe and looking forward to contributing to another wonderful community of illustrators.

So.... I'm Kim (aka lil kim). I live in Australia but I'm from Canada. I paint for the children's market using watercolours, coloured pencils and collage. My first trade book is coming out later this year in Australia (very excited!) If you want to see more of my work there's lil-kim.blogspot.com or www.kimflemingillustration.com

I haven't had time to work on the current theme yet, so thought instead I would show you my contribution to Kelly Light's Ripple blog.

Looking forward to all your beautiful artwork and insightful comments!

Cheers
lil kim

ps. Is anyone going to the SCBWI conference in LA this year? I am going... anyone need a conference buddy...? :-)

Emma and her pet

Emma has a slightly unusual magic pet ... one her mother doesn't believe in.  This is a picture I've just done for my first attempted picture book (no publisher yet alas, but I'm entering the first few pages in a competition this month).  Man, it is so much harder than I ever thought to create a book, but it's fun too, especially as I have learnt how to ERASE MISTAKES AND ADD BACKGROUNDS IN PHOTOSHOP!

pets

Betty is not such an unusual pet, but she's fierce when it comes to protecting the home front! (I've got to get a computer drawing pad--Betty is done in traditional watercolor and brush, but her leash, bow, yellow markings, and the green worm were done with a mouse in Photoshop Elements, and it shakily took forever!)

Octopup

Brad had to have the latest and the chicest of pets, but this
was just wrong on so many levels.

Unexpected "Sea"prise!

Sorry, I know that title was a groaner, but I just adore groaners!!

Morgan LeGraw knew her sister Sophia was obsessed with "Saving the Animals."  But she was NOT expecting to find this in the closet when she reached in to grab a jacket.  A few of her sisters stuffies shoved in the corner, maybe, but a whole aquarium, sea life, Sophia and all ... no, that she wasn't expecting.

The Cleaners Lair ( Strange things in the Cupboard)

Uncle Roscoe knew that he to come clean
about his minty freshness.
Truth is He was Tammy's Candy pusher by day
and the Cleaner by night! Tammy was a nosey child.
She found Uncle Roscoe's Secret Lair in the Wardrobe.
Oh the shame.

Dao found he had nothing to wear...

What lovely work, everyone over the last two weeks .... I got a bit stuck with illustration the last few weeks.  For a holiday and to try and get back the creative urge, I did some landscapes from real life (they're on my blog if you like landscapes, http://silvergumstudio.blogspot.com ). My dream book to illustrate would be set in the country or coast & have scope for sweeping landscapes.
I struggled a lot with this picture and it's not exactly what I wanted, but the colours were a change for me so it's progress.

Surprise!

This is an image I used long time ago for a SCBWI contest (do they still have those--they were fun) & it seemed appropriate for this week's challenge.
