Cold, autumn, winter, brrr etc.

Hi All,

Here is a smattering of wintry goodness. Even though we are heading into summer down here in Australia, these are the winters of childhood-- growing up in Montreal.

This is also my submission for They Draw And Cook's holiday recipe contest.

Hope you like! (the illustration, and the recipe! :)

Thanksgiving Hug

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

giving thanks

So… we don't actually celebrate Thanksgiving down here in the good ol' S of A, this is the closest thing I could find…
This is what I am most thankful for: Nadene and I on one of our many walks along Table Mountain :)
Happy turkey day everyone!

Thanksgiving

The cook was busy in the kitchen and the smells of the holiday filled the air. The turkey was especially happy he was a guest for a change!

Snow Dog - sruble

The Snow Dog image and haiku I did a few years ago seem to fit the topic this week:

Snow Dog!

Here’s the haiku, in case you can’t read it in the image:

Big white puppy dog,

Looks just like a polar bear,

Likes to hide in snow

I’ve always liked this big white puppy dog and polar bears too.

What’s your favorite animal that likes snow?

Burrrrrrr....Cold!

Thank goodness Aunt Sally got carried away in knitting Terry's scarf as the extra length has come in handy while Terry and her friends watch their first snow fall.....

That time of year again?

Buurrrrrrrr...For most of us, this guy...He can take the harsh winters.

Many more wintery themes to come within the next month or so on my blog, so stop by I promise there will be plenty! Winter is my favorite time to paint.

Just Riding Around

When I was a kid I had a bike I just loved and somehow got my dog Louie to ride around in the basket.  It was so much fun and we saw lots and lots of interesting things too.

Children Playing

When I was a kid, I used to love cardboard boxes. Making forts and houses, kitchens and cars and everything imaginable. With the coming holidays, I'm also reminded of how during the preparation of our holiday dinners, my siblings, cousins and I were often shooed outside during the day to play...and to stay out of the way of the adults!

Brrr...

Patrick, the very small polar bear, didn't mind the cold…
He could only think of lunch but where was he going to find a goldfish at this time of year?!

I recycled an old ink and bleach drawing by adding the goldfish.

Winter Fun

Thanks for the awesome inspiration. This started as an old illo that I completed for NJ SCBWI illustrator conference two years ago. I re-drew, re-painted  and replaced some of the characters.

Young Mermaids at Play

Summer or Fall even the young Mermaids love to play. Especially with the cute orange fish!

Let It Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

There is something so very magical about the first season's snow.
All white, bright, clean and crunchy!
I love it.
To all my wonderful friends here at Watercolor Wednesdays
I wanted to let you all know that because of my scheduled
relocation and work schedule, that I won't be able to
participate in WAWE for a little while.
I have to take a break to catch my breathe and rest
for the long journey ahead. I will be back after some
rest and after things are settled.
I'll be by to visit of course. You talented Ladies
and Gentlemen are AWESOME!!!. Keep posting all your
fabulous work and encourage each others. Linda
I send you all my love my talented friend.
Everyone have a wonderful Holiday Season with
family and friends. Be blessed!
Sincerely,
Vanessa Brantley-Newton

Kids playing in Autumn

I love Fall! It is my creative season. :)

The feelings of Fall

I did this one a while ago (last fall) but I still like it.    I decided to put a border around it using photoshop.   I used watercolor and then used colored pencil to get more detail in the work. Fall is such a nice time of year.

The Dance of Fall

Happy Fall Everyone!

Autumn feeling

Here is an oldie but a goodie. It is of course Spring here in the southern hemisphere, but admittedly it still feels like Winter!

Hope you are enjoying Autumn/Fall in the north -- it really is one of my favourite seasons...

Oh, and just wanted to let you all know that I am having a giveaway on my blog for the release of my new children's book! Please visit! :) http://tinyurl.com/23pocmy
