The Fairy Godmother of Sweets
"There is nothing that a cup of tea and a pistachio macaroon
can't cure" said the cubby little Fairy. Cinderella and her
fairy Godmother stayed at home and had a tea party instead.
This is traditional watercolor which is then scanned into
my computer and finished in photoshop.
Have a great week everyone.

Pumpkins
Here is for the challenge of the week. This design is a combo of watercolor and colored pencil. I did this a few years ago so my style has changed since I have done this.
Bewitching Hour
A small, quick piece 5" x 5" watercolor & ink pen. I'm busy preparing for three major exhibitions. You can find where & when on my blog. We've got some wonderful art going on at Watercolor Wednesdays--great responses everyone!
Cattitude
Hi everyone, It's been a while I know, and oddly as I scanned this to post and say "Hello, I've missed you and here's what I've been up to" I see the post has a Kitty-Cat theme - so a two-fer - bonus! In between a lot of life stuff and a couple of project deadlines I recently took some open watercolor classes. I've always worked in either acrylic or inks, and so I joined the class to better understand the technical components of watercolor and how to gain that 'control' - you know what I'm talking about, right? Anyway, this was a small side experiment that I just had a little fun with. I never intend to use watercolor in my children's book illustration, but it was kinda cool to see how one of my characters made it onto the Arches. This was using Cotman (I'm such a student!) on 90lb Hot Press Arches. Good to be back, I've missed you all! :)

Cat Magic
I"m halfway through a personal month long project to paint something with a pumpkin in it every day this month and it's been fun to also work the Watercolor Wednesdays and IF themes into it. Here's my "Cat Magic" (with pumpkins, too.)

Here's the painted up Back Beat Betty.
This first version is straight watercolor and gouache.
This one was manipulated a bit with Photoshop.
I added two layers.
One filled with purple in the dark areas and set to multiply with a 70 percent opacity.
The other is a duplicate of the purple layer that I added noise to with the noise filter and then reduced the opacity to 50 percent.
It gives it a better feeling of her being in a spotlight up on stage.
I think I might have to go in and add her shadow that would be cast by the spotlight. Not sure about that though.
I also might go back in and add some more details to her to make her look more like a bobcat.
Notice she doesn't have any whiskers or any markings.
I have a good reference pick that I have been using for her so I'll go back to it and "plus" her up.
She's the first in a series that I want to do.
It's a series of Beatnic animals.
I have to get to the library and see if I can actually find any books on beatnics.
I'l also have to look up some musical phrases to be able to name the rest of the characters.
Some of the ideas for characters are a cat fish, yak, toucan, squirrel, mouse, sloth,...

logo size
Hi-Can you let me know the size of the logo for this blog? I have Novembers and I want to get that worked on now since I have some free time.
Thanks.
Thanks.

My first Watercolor Wednesday post! I am so excited to be able to participate!
I've always thought that sunset was the most bewitching hour of the day, especially during the fall...

The Bewitching Hour
Little and Big - a sketch
I did this sketch for Little and Big - but when I tried to paint it, all the action was lost and it came out dead. For example I tried painting that whirly shape behind them in a solid colour, but it just didn't work. In the end I decided to just post the sketch. Any advice??
Bewitching Hour
I love Halloween so I have a lot of designs for that holiday. Here is one I did last year for a post card to send out.
