Swarm

have a nice week everyone!

Swarm

Hi, everyone!
I'm glad to be back at WaWe, with my latest little illo for IF.

What Ive been working on...

I used Prussian Blue, Cad Red and Viridian (W&N) with black ink to create this illustration on HP smooth paper. The ink was an afterthought as I overworked the painting...

What week are we on BTW? Is this week 4 for WaWe? x

Swarm

This was my first try at an Illustration Friday theme and it's also my first time posting to Watercolor Wednesdays. Two firsts in one day! Alison

A little swarm of butterflies

Honey Bear

I just submitted this to Illustration Friday for their topic 'Swarm'. It is a watercolor on Liberte paper from a sketchbook 80 lb. cold press. The paints used were DaVinci and Winsor Newton. I have added texture and detail with pencil. The materials were what I had on hand not a preference and welcome finding out other peoples experience and preferences of materials.

Welcome...

Please welcome Alison Kolesar. You can see her wonderful artwork at website

WAWE members I would like to know when doing watercolor illustrations,
what are your favorite watercolor products that you like to work with?
What kinds of watercolor pencils, paints, and pads do you think work best?
What poundage of paper do you like to work on? What kinds of inks are good?
Cold or hot press paper? Anything you are willing to share with the rest of us
would be great! I like working on hot press about 120 lbs.
I love using watercolor pencils. Winsor Newton and The French School
are the brands I like best. I really love Peerless watercolor as well.
They travel great. Peerless are my favorite watercolors to carry with me.
Waiting to hear from you all.

Welcome

Please welcome new member Anne Marie Perks! You can see her artwork at her website

finished Bugs

finished the illustration for Stories for Children & had fun doing it. The image ended up mixed media with watercolor as the base, Prismacolor, & ink pen.

Illo Friday "layers" and latest work

Hello everyone,
I haven't posted for ages either, so I'm really happy that I have work that fits this month's prompts!  Like lots of people, I did The Princess and the Pea for Illo Friday "Layers" (I can't believe how many of us had that same idea - it's such a great story).  Mine is just a quickie and I really admire the beautiful ones the rest of you did.

The dragon is a picture I've just done for my children's illustration diploma with the London Art College.  The assignment was to create a vignette of a young dragon who has accidentally set someone's thatched cottage on fire and is horrified.  You can see that my paper has buckled a bit.  I used a cheap paper because I wanted a really white, smooth surface and my watercolour paper is textured and off-white.  Does anyone know of a heavier paper that's smooth and white?
Any ideas on how to improve it would be welcome too.

Layers IF... Princess and the Pea

This is my first post for WW and I'm not sure I'm meant to be posting here. I drew this for IF, but I was so pleased I wanted to share it here too. I'm still trying to figure out the posting rules here. I'm so happy to have joined you all. I love everyones work, I checked out all of your blogs.

Hi Everyone...I've been working on this little guy

This is what Ive been working on this week and in the spirit of joining in I thought I'd pop along and show you guys. He started life as a digital illustration (which I wont post here as its not watercolour - if you would like to see the digital version its over on my website www.maxinelee.com) but in the spirit of experimentation I decided to do this version too...

Nice to be here, by the way :)

Livi & Grace

It has been ages since I've uploaded anything to WW... time to change that!
In going with the new challenges, here is what I am currently working on and my interpretation of the Illustration Friday topic: layers.
I've been commissioned to illustrate a book based on the authors two daughters, Livi and Grace. So here is the first of many sketches to come of these two little ladies!

What I am working on

I haven't had time to post in quite a while, so I thought I'd post a quick one of what I am currently working on. It's going to be the princess and the pea.

illustration for Stories for Children Magazine

Just wanted to share what I'm doing--I'm illustrating a bug story for Stories for Children Magazine. They're back in business & I'm so happy for them! First, I researched the bugs mentioned in the nonfiction story. Then, I found out how big they actually are, and I set up a ratio so that the bugs would be near-correct in size. I made a light ink drawing, and then added Magnolia leaves as the background (I'm from the south) because they have such large leaves. Next, I'll watercolor it.

Layer

It's good to have a few IF illustrations in your back pocket. And luckily for me a second place to share them since I'm often late posting for IF... I am longing for Spring. Wouldn't it be funny if this fell out of a tree?

Girl with the red cloak

It´s a Wednesday, so it´s a great day to post my first watercolor painting here!
I have joined WaWe some time ago (few months ago actually), but never posted anything until now. Usually I paint pictures that have more brighter "happier" colors, this is slightly different from what I do normally.

Illustration fridays chicken

So this is a very old post for illustration friday but I thought starting with this post would push me to continue with the weekly challenges. I'll have amazing things to come, still overcoming a flu so forgive me if my paintings are wiggly.

Thank You for welcoming me to Watercolor wednesday :)

I did this illustration for Watercolor Wednesday´s "wintertheme" earlier this year. Then it took some weeks before I was "invited" to the blog ;). Just want to share it with You and say hello!

Pernilla

Summer stretches on...

I haven't any snowy themed drawings to post so instead here's a little sun.
Make that... a lot!

It's from a lovely little story written by a friend and colleague of mine which I'm illustrating when time allows… ah, sweet labour of love…
:)

A little piece done in watercolor, ink pen and colored pencil. Around here it looks much like this!
