illustration for Stories for Children Magazine

Just wanted to share what I'm doing--I'm illustrating a bug story for Stories for Children Magazine. They're back in business & I'm so happy for them! First, I researched the bugs mentioned in the nonfiction story. Then, I found out how big they actually are, and I set up a ratio so that the bugs would be near-correct in size. I made a light ink drawing, and then added Magnolia leaves as the background (I'm from the south) because they have such large leaves. Next, I'll watercolor it.

The sketch looks great! Nice scene, lots of success with the illustration for this story! Besides the fun of painting is looking up pictures of what you are going to paint very fun to do.
