Elephant simply couldn't put her book down that night! She couldn't wait to find out what happened next.

So what book do you think she's reading? I have a couple of ideas, but I'd like to hear yours.

As for the painting, I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm not sure about all of my color choices. There's something missing, I think. Also, I don't know if I should've painted her book red. And what are your thoughts on the background? Should it be darker? What color would you have chosen for the night?

so cute, i liked the idea! i think if you could make the background darker it would add more contrast to the piece and would popped up the elephant as the center of attention..

I think he's adorable, but then I have a thing for elephants. I like the book color, it ties in with the quilt. Maybe he reading about the adventures of Babar and is afraid he might have to wear clothes, too. ha ha

This is really cute and cuddly. I like your color choice. Maybe darkening the background will do the trick it will add a little more contrast against the pretty lighter purple that you are already using. The composition is just great! It reminds me of my little one reading an interesting book. I really would like to see where the story goes. You're off to a fantastic start.

Lovely little ephelump!

Painting night time scenes has got to be among the most difficult excersizes.

Keep in mind that in the dark, definition is lost. In your painting if you pull the background color into the back area of the quilt to hide its edge, add deep shadows cast by objects interrupting the flash light beam and dull all colors not in the direct glow of the light, that will make a big difference.

Great imagery!

Adorable! I think the background reads fine as night for a "light" mood. Making the background darker would up the contrast, but would also make it a little scarier I think.

It's lovely, I know just how he feels! I usually cannot put a good book down. I love the quilt, his comfy pose and the beams of light. I agree that if you make the background darker it might add a bit more contrast and highlight the fact that it is night time. It's a super illo, though!

This is good--kids never want to put the book down & this illustrates that. Nice job.
