What now?

I can remember being a bit overdressed for the winter weather!

Question about copyright

Hello fellow WAWEs,
Some of you might be able to answer a question I've got.  I want to show on my blog some images from an old picture book (1963) illustrated by William Stobbs.  It's a fabulous book and there are no images from it anywhere on the web - I think it's been forgotten.  The publishers are no longer publishing anything, but were acquired by another company.  I wrote to them asking for permission, but I'm just wondering, is this necessary if I'm planning to acknowledge the artist and publisher?  I read somewhere that it's OK to publish images from a book if you are promoting or reviewing it, but I'm not sure.  Any advice would be welcome.

This is a picture I did recently for the Tomi de Paola award (I didn't win, damn!) which shows Heidi seeing snow on the Alps for the first time - I thought that fit the theme OK!

Snowy savannah

Winter's come early to the veld this year and the little ones are discovering snow for the first time.
Snow in the savannah would be a strange thing indeed but some things never change...

Snowy deer

Well it's the middle of summer here in Australia, but I did this illustration on returning from America, where it was lovely to have a wintry Christmas (although no snow where we were, unlike the rest of the country)

Happy new year! May 2011 be a year of fun, laughter, and creativity for all of us.

Rumbles in the Sky Western Watercolor by Debbie Flood

This is my latest Watercolor painting, Rumbles in the sky. This painting is 22 x 29 inches on 300lb Arches Watercolor Paper. $2,500.00 Inquiries to purchase may come to my email, debflood@debfloodart.com Thank you.
This painting went relatively easy, to my surprise. I have never painted this large in watercolor before. But given the subject matter and what I wanted to say in the painting, it needed to be painted large. I photographed the subject at a Barrel Racing event. It was mid morning and the morning light was illuminating her braid, hat and the horse, bouncing light around on the white markings of the Paint Horse. In order to show these elements, it just had to be a large image.

If you would like to see this work evolve as a work in progress, you can view all the entries on my Blog at http://debbieflood.blogspot.com All my studio updates, news and recent works & exhibits are posted there.

Trying New Things in 2011!

This is my first acrylic painting.
