This is hard but fun! I've needed to do this because I've wanted to create a dummy book for these two characters--any constructive comments are very welcome!
oh, it's very VERY lovely as the little piggy is laying on the horse! your horse are always the best, Linda! and i would be curious this piggy's expressions in different emotions.
I love that you picked to very different types of animals to go together that's great!. I love that they really seem to like each others. I like piggy with or without his boots. Some would say he seems more like a character with the boot though. You've got all the emotions displayed which is wonderful. You too are off to a great and fantastic start. I can't wait to see what else you will do!
Those are really great! I love how you've given the pig so many great poses filled with action. The way he's dressed also provides a lot of interest, and I agree with Krisztina that your horses really are great.
As for constructive criticism, I think you've pretty much nailed the consistency in your pig. I think you could round out his face just a bit in the upper left illo (it's more squarish rather than rounder like the others), but other than that, you look like you're on your way to a great start. And the boots aren't a problem with me.
Wonderful characters. One of the comments I have is about over all consistency. It seems the horse is very consistent in different poses as is the pig, but the two of them aren't quite in the same world yet. The pig's face is much more simplistic than the horse's. (I'm sure you're aware that in real life horses are quite frightened of pigs...not sure why.)
You do great work! I love your horses, and this little piggy is adorable. Great boots!! Personally, I'd love to see this piggy when he's grumpy, or sad, or perplexed. I think there are some fun stories waiting to be told with this little feller.
Linda, I am really digging his little piggy boots and I think they certainly add something special — and appealing — to his personality. Bravo. And I agree it could be good to show some negative emptions/expresions - or puzzled, surprised, baffled, inquisitive etc.
I love the horse's spots and I too wonder if the horse needs some more facial development. That would give horsey more of a presence as a character in his own right - if that's your plan — rather than a lesser, supporting role to piggy. can't wait to see some color.
I like both characters, the pig in cowboy suit is quite adorable, and he's very expressive (a bit shy, and very loving towards his/her friend, the horse...) Perhaps a few more sketches showing more of the horse character would be helpful to get a better sense of his personality.
This is hard indeed, isn't it? One thing I have learned with the little I have done is that it does require a lot of time, work and reflection! :-)
