Character sheet

I'm actually working right now on a series of new characters for Forget-Me-Not-Tots, LLC, but I don't believe I can share them online while they're in "production."

Instead I think I'll do some studies based on an illustration I did for Illustration Friday some time ago, and that I really, really like. I'd like to develop the characters a bit more, especially the little boy and the dog at first, so I'll be pasting some pencil studies soon.

Because I also have a full-time job, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to accomplish in terms of final illustrations, but I'll definitely try. If not, at least I hope to get some real good practice playing with these characters.

Monica--I really like these characters--love the little boy, cat & dog & look forward to seeing some sketches. I work full time too & just got a reject letter (unsigned!) from Carus Publications--Spider, Baby Bug, etc., so I'm mooping around--it helps to see what everyone else is doing--keep up the good work & good luck on the Tots illustrations. :)

Thank you, Linda. This painting come about kind of fast, not too much planning, but I really thought I hit a right note with it. The thing is to see whether I can keep these characters real...

Don't get too down about the rejection letter. I'd definitely try again. I once took an art class and the instructor said never to take any rejection letter personally and to just keep trying, being persistent. It's not easy, I know, but I try to keep this in mind when I get down about my art and my opportunities as an illustrator. So file this away, and in a little while try them again. Sometimes it's just a question of timing... :-)

This does look like a fun scene to explore. I like the use of salt and the friendship between the boy and his dog. It'll be fun to see more!

Good luck with juggling everything. I fully understand (except, my full-time job is being a mom). And congratulations on your real assignment! That's what I hope to be doing some day (hopefully soon).

Don't I understand about the full time job thing. I had to go back in August. My husband is out of work as well so I really had to go back. I love the characters Monica. This is going to make for a really great story. I love how the little boy is laying on his dog. This is priceless. Great composition as well. I just finished up a couple of jobs so I can start working on my characters as well. You did a fabu job on yours. Let's see what will become of it! Something great I know!!!

So beautiful and peaceful - this is just wonderful! I can almost hear the little snores and sighs on this lovely moonlit night!

I so hope you do get some chances to develop these characters - I think they could tell some wonderful stories:-)
