i bet this was thumbelina's expression when she learned she had to marry the ugly, old rat.ok sorry i didnt read the topic carefully! i read it in glimpse and thought, "oh, its about Thumbelina!" i apologize if this is off-topic....oh well, it still has Thumbelina in it isnt it.. :)

This is so very charming and sweet. The work is just beautiful and filled with such detail. You have set up a wonderful scene for the eye. fantastic work on this one!

It doesn't matter if you're slightly off topic, this is still a great illustration and I can def. see it in a children's book. If you have time, why not do the other illustration … you have such a lovely style and I think it'd be really cool to see another scene and how you carry T's character over with the bird. I am really digging the texture of the burrow. Creepy rat, too. Nice work!
This is a good illustration! We needed a different take on it & you did it well. I like her expression--ick! Poor Thumbelina--she's so kind & doesn't stick up for herself very well at first.

I'm so glad you made a different scene - and I like how the weekly prompts can let us travel off on our own journeys, loosely linked by a beautiful theme each week:-) your illustration is enchanting! really beautiful colors and storytelling - and wonderful details like the wilted flowers and the stove - just beautiful!

Oh, we can relate to poor Thumbelina, you captured her expression perfectly, and Mr. Rat does seem a bit like the wrong sort of fellow! I always like the atmosphere of your illos, the backgrounds, the shadows, it's so very well done!

I really like the way you do your backgrounds. How do you get that speckled look? Do you use a sponge? Well whatever it is you do, you do it wonderfully! Great illo.
michelle, i used the old technique which never gets old--a toothbrush! cover the part you want to preserve, then speckle, speckle, speckle.
I need to learn, as you have, how to use light in my work. I like how it pulls our attention to the most important part. I also like your composition with the piece.
Oh, and, I think all of the little details are wonderful!
I love how Thumbelina is sticking her tongue out as if she tastes something bad.
