Week 1: Prompt
Sorry this is a day late, I have been busy beavering with Sprouts, the NJ magazine... phew! Lots going on this month - anyway, here are two sketches for my Happy Holidays piece... the first is a double page spread of a 8x10" vertical book. Madam Chook is trying to figure out a gift for pal Phileas Foxx. Phileas will be back just in time for the holidays after his round-the-world trip ....
The second is maybe a scene or the cover, I don't know, but I still haven't worked out the actual 'gift' yet ... hmmm?
What do you think of these two pieces? Does the hugging one look like the characters are very young, in which case, maybe Madam Chook is NOT the BFF to Phileas?

I can just feel the love and Christmas spirit coming off of these sketches. I really like their happy faces and the hugging scene. Looks like a great story is happening here. Great work
Thanks Vanessa - I now have a problem, or do I? My husband says the chicken looks too much like Chicken Little. What do you all think? ARGH!
I love the hug scene! Yes, the chick looks a bit young to be mama hen.
I see a huge number of images you can draw from this story.
Make your little chicken more individual if he's a chicken little nugget! LOL. I have that trouble sometimes too when I draw a currently popular animal.
I also love the hugging scene (and I love the picture of Phileas Foxx on the wall on the first one.)
I didn't this your little chicken looked like Chicken Little... or at least that did not cross my mind when I first saw your cute sketches!
I love the little chick & his glasses! He has just enough sass. The hug is great & very dynamic & overall great drawing.
I agree with Vanessa, there is a lot of love and festivity to these sketches. Really charming.
Can't wait to see this with color.
oh Leezy, you did it again! your characters are AWESOME!
first of all: if you didn't talk about C.L. i never think about him!
well, on the second picture your chick maybe looks like Chicken Little JUST a little bit because of her smile changes her face... BUT on the first picture all your characters are so original and owner (with lovely cockeyed faces)! so if you keep these perfect lines on your hand that will be great!
