When Hearts Take Flight

"When Hearts Take Flight" (watercolor on paper, 7" x 10"). This little piece began as a series of wet-into-wet washes. After the washes dried, I looked for possible shapes or hints in the direction that I might want to take. That's when I saw the dove. I added shadows and forced shapes to come forward (hearts and ribbons) but left the dove basically the same soft shape. The color scheme is warm (oranges and reds) with blue accepts. "Roughly Speaking" was juried into the 41st Annual Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Exhibition, June 9 - August 28, 2016, Arvada Center for the Arts, Colorado Watercolor Society/co-host.

I'm a member of  the Southwestern Watercolor Society.

"Look to the Sea"

Look to the Sea is a small (8" x 8") imaginary view of the seaside. The seagull is from several reference pictures that I took while doing plein air in Cambria last year. The gulls seemed to pose for me. This little painting is part of my "Daily Something" series.
