When Hearts Take Flight

"When Hearts Take Flight" (watercolor on paper, 7" x 10"). This little piece began as a series of wet-into-wet washes. After the washes dried, I looked for possible shapes or hints in the direction that I might want to take. That's when I saw the dove. I added shadows and forced shapes to come forward (hearts and ribbons) but left the dove basically the same soft shape. The color scheme is warm (oranges and reds) with blue accepts. "When Hearts Take Flight" is available for purchase on my website (under "Watercolor Weekly).

Horse of Gold

"Horse of Gold" (watercolor on paper, 10" x 7"). In this piece, I'm playing with negatives even within the body of the horse. The image is not meant to be realistic. It's a symbol, a shape, representing the energy of a horse (an imaginary horse). The painting method includes wet-into-wet watercolor and wet on dry. The color is simplified because, as always in my work, drawing is foremost, color is secondary. This piece may be purchased on my website or by contacting me

it is simple in its needs
yet bold in what it captures and surrenders

Plein Air abstract, watercolor painting, Cheniere Lake painting by Linda T Snider Ward, Louisiana artist
Cheniere Lake, Abstract Plein Air. This is an abstract plein air painting, which was a lot of fun to paint. It's watercolor on paper. After painting plein air several days with a friend of mine, I was curious to see "what if" I only painted the shapes that I saw and didn't try to create a realistic image. The result is rather interesting.
