Day at the Beach (pencil study)

I don't consider myself a colorist, so I've been experimenting with something that seems to work for me: drawing in pencil first, using value, then print image off onto watercolor paper & watercolor the image. I draw much better than I paint & I think I've finally found a technique that works for me. Comments and/or constructive criticism welcome!

This pencil study is just as beautiful as the colored one. I just love what can be done with simply pencil lines. It's beautiful either way.

I really like look and feel of this technique, using pencil lines with value and then watercolor.

Have you seen the work of Alicia Padrón? She's got a lovely style and uses this technique too.

Here's her blog address:

This is a beautiful drawing!
