Meet Marjorie

Marjorie is a sweet and smart little girl, always imagining herself as a royal princess of a kingdom from a faraway land. Despite her very normal life as a girl, she spends most of her time daydreaming about the enchanting life as a beautiful princess and easily gets carried away with it.

Hi! This is my first post to Watercolor Wednesdays. This is a little girl character I draw sometimes and I decided to put color to her. Hope everyone has a good week!

'Wild thing" Child of the Earth

 

I created this watercolor last month. It's a large painting, that I created from a Child a day 5 x 7 watercolor  

To me she represents the wild thing. 'Child of the Earth' .

I have been really busy in the studio. Since starting the Child a day project back in April, I have been non stop. Submissions coming in from followers and people purchasing them, that I haven't had a chance to begin to pursue any Book Illustration jobs.Plus I self published a book "Painting a child a day, Volume 1" containing the first six months of the project. That published in October. So I am happily creating and I check in here at Watercolor Wednesdays, from time to time to see what you all are up to.

Both Wings

Bless you, free time, bless you… Work had been topsy turvy this past week, I’m so glad I can finally take a breather from all those drawings…So what did I do with this wonderful and joyful free time? I drew! Haha, ironic, isn’t it? But this time I drew whatever I wanted, no targets, no guidelines, no nothing. I’m embracing this first time Watercolor Wednesdays piece…hope you like it!

Wild Thing

Carlie really wasn't afraid of anything. She was even known to give a pointer or two to Bart, the creature that lived in her closet, on how to be fierce and frightening. Of course, these pointers always left Bart feeling inadequate and depressed. Carlie had that effect on a lot of people...

Congratulations Michelle Henninger & Stephanie Ruble! They both responded to all of the October challenges and have won a prize! Michelle will be receiving a great little prize from Vanessa, and Sephanie will be receiving an equally great little prize from me (Linda). Thanks to both Michelle & Stephanie for being an important and active part of Watercolor Wednesdays (WaWe). It's members like you that keep WaWe going and help it to be a great place to learn and grow for children's book illustrators.

Vanessa has graciously agreed to be co-administrator for the WaWe site! We know how busy you are, and we really appreciate your support and input into WaWe. Vanessa has worked hard to encourage members to better at their craft. She is always there for us--displaying her work and ideas and cheering everyone on--thank you so much Vanessa!

Vanessa and I have will be giving a prize in December also to the illustrator who responds to all prompts. So come on you newbies and all you other WaWe members--lets see your wonderful work!

I have always loved this book from a child.

"In the Night Kitchen" is another one that I adore.

The movie kind of left me feeling sad. I liked the book better.

Halloween page from my first book.

This is the Halloween painting from my 1st book which came out in 2005. My style has certainly evolved in the last 6 years, hasn't it?

I signed up for both NaNoWriMo and PiBoIdMo this month. 1200 words on Nano so far. Meant to write this afternoon but a bunch of nieces and nephews showed up unexpectedly, so was playing with babies instead. Still need to open an idea file for PiBoIdMo, but it would be nice to have an idea to write down before I do that.

I am starting pages for my upcoming book (Fall 2010) which has a final art deadline of mid February. I also intend to keep up my daily doodle challenge. I have noticed there is more of an ease to my more involved pieces which I assume is from the daily routine. I like it.

I'll also try and post some of the prompts for this month. But as you can probably see I have a rather full palette already. Oh, I almost forgot, the SCBWI-MO annual fall confluence is next Saturday and I am going. They will be selecting and announcing the new illustrator liaison coordinator for the chapter. I tossed my hat in the ring. Wish me luck!
