School Lunch - sruble

Last week, I said I wanted to do a crayon resist for Watercolor Wednesdays this week, so I did. I’ve always loved crayon resist, because you never quite know how it’s going to turn out. I even learned a few things (or re-learned them, since I’m sure I knew them when I was 5), like: white crayons first, then black, otherwise the black will smear (duh).

So here it is, Sheila and her best friend Amanda talking about school lunch at Zombie High:

Thank you Wendy! I had a blast doing this piece. :)

Thanks Carla! The first step is to do your drawing with crayons. I used Crayola crayons because they have a lot of wax in them (as opposed to my nice artist crayons which aren't as waxy).

Instead of watercolor paper, I used smooth Bristol so that the crayon would sit on top of the paper and the paint couldn't seep in like it would with a textured paper. (BTW, it's really hard to see where the white is and where you need more!)

Once you have the crayons down, then you can use a solid color to wash over the crayons with. I used a lot of water because I didn't want the paint to sit on the surface of the crayons in too many places. If I had a pan of the old kids watercolors, I would have used those, but I didn't, so I used my good pan paints and not the tube ones (because last time they didn't work as well, but I probably just didn't use enough water).

Have fun if you try it and let me know how it goes!

Thank you Vanessa! BTW, Love your new banner!!

Thanks Linda Kay!
