Cave revised

I couldn't stand it. I just had to fix the back of the crate. Ahhhh.....much better. While I was at it, I added some shadows onto the floor, being cast by the crate door. I also toned down the left side of the crate, near the top of the painting. Keeping the higher/lighter area, nearer the dogs face, creates a place for the viewer's eye to flow and rest. Which is on those cute brown eyes looking up at us. Would love to hear other's thoughts on this painting.
I'm in the process of doing an illustration of the monthly challenge, The legend of the silkies... oh, I probably haven't spelled that right. I apologize if I haven't. I don't have my reference visible to me at the moment.
I hadn't heard of this legend before and found it to be very fascinating and fun. I must say I am having fun working on the illustration.

I just love that dog. I wonder what his story is. Has he had a hard life, or has he just gotten back from romping in the park, and is ready for his nap? Great job!

Welcome, Debbie, and wow! What an amazing piece you did. I like them both, like the others I had not noticed the back of the crate until you mentioned. It's wonderful how you captured your dog's expression so well, and the perspective and washes are wonderful. So is the light. Great piece!!

Thank you all, Vanessa, Michelle, & Monica.
I didn't notice the comments until now. I thought I had the updates to come into my email, but I guess not. hmmmm.
I'm glad you all like the painting. I paint so many animals that I seem to include them in my thoughts, no matter what the words! ha ha.
It's good to know that your eyes fixed on the dog and nothing else. That means I accomplished my job! I have to tell you, I did this in one day. Then the next morning I fixed the back of the crate.
I have the Selkie painting almost done, though I'm not sure it is ok to post that one.I;m such a realist with my work and details, that it might not be appropriete for small children, I would like to be able to email it to someone to get an idea if it is ok???
and I started work on the Music lesson.

Welcome to the group, Debbie! I haven't been posting for a while due to teething babies, sick kids, an over-worked husband, and other illo's taking precedence, but I do hope to post soon.

Your illo is wonderful. Thanks for teaching that excellent insight about lighting (that's something I need to perfect). That dog has such a wonderful expression. Great work!

Welcome Debbie!
Great piece. Excellent drawing and colours.
I love the details, and trust me, children love them to!

Thank you Angelic & Matalonga.
I know I enjoy reading a book with my kids that have wonderfully detailed images, so I am hanging onto that.
Many of my collectors (of horse art) are children and some have taken my horse art (how to draw) workshops.
It's great to be in constant contact with them and get their feedback.

The look on this sweet dogs face just tugs at my heart. I just want to give him a big hug. Great perspective as well, since it leads you right to those sad eyes. Thanks for sharing.
