Before receiving further instruction, Noah proceeded to prepare for the flood. His wife had always wanted a pink, polka-dotted umbrella anyway.
I like the idea (my husbands) and I like Noah, but I don't necessarily like how this all turned out. What are your thoughts? How would you have done it (perspective, colors, etc -- I chose to make the umbrella pink since I had one when I was in kindergarten and LOVED it; I don't think it really worked here)? Also, my husband tends to be a lot like Mr. Knightly (Emma), always saying things like, "You've drawn her too tall." When do you feel like you're done with an illo? Do you feel like a failure when you could have done better but choose to put it aside anyway?

hi Angelic, i absolutely feel with you: create something (anything) makes you undecided because always there is a better way.... BUT relax! :) it works here. this umbrella is a great choice with its pink colour and polka-dots. i very like these. maybe i would choice a viewed from absolutely above, but it's so personal and subjective opinion. too tall ladder makes me feel that this umbrella isn't an ordinary one: it's a BIG one for Noah, it's fine, i think! (for the rest: if i feel that i made a mess of my painting, i repaint it in different way but sometimes it isn't help me...)
love the perspective & the whole concept itself--I think a book dummy should be put together all about Noah's pink umbrella! OR, you could do a funny picture book about things to do with a pink umbrella! love it...
I love the perspective on this piece, makes the composition really interesting AND love the "girly" umbrella as well. Fun illustration, thanks for sharing.
The perspective is wonderful! I think the whole idea is great to start with. I love seeing Noah standing above with needle and thread. It's a great piece and you can truly build on this. Just relax and enjoy the process because it is a process. It's just paint and paper. Your talented as well and if it is not turning out like you want just walk away for while and come back and look again.
First, I have to say I really like how your illustration came out. I love the perspective, which is rather original and really interesting.
But I do know how you feel. A lot of times I'm not satisfied with the end result and can feel a bit unhappy and discouraged about my work. One thing that helps is to put it aside and look at it again the next day. I find that sometimes I am able to see it with different eyes and actually like it a bit more. I do try to redo some works, but I have to be careful not to tighten up and start worrying too much about getting it "right." I think it's okay to put aside certain works and return to them later or to try something different altogether. As long as I feel I'm doing some thing creative, I feel I'm giving myself a chance to grow and become a better artist (hopefully!)
Great perspective and love the concept, your colors & shading are wonderful! I agree too that you should 'fly with no fear' and see where you can go with this :>
I like the pink umbrella and Noah is fabulous. As for putting something aside--I think if you learn from it then the process was not wasted even if the "product" is less than what you want. I think the perspective is part of what is bugging you here. It is a great point of view, but the perpective lines on the ladder and the handle of the umbrella are not in the same plane. If you wanted to fix it I would get another larger peice of paper to put behind the illustration and draw a vanishing point on it where the two sides of the ladder meet. Then draw a line for the handle of the umbrella down to the same point. Even though the point can't be seen in image--it will help anchor the two together. I also love the way the animals are clinging to the umbrella.
