I've written a story about this princess which I hope to some day take all the way to publication. Thanks, Vanessa, for getting me to do something I've been meaning to do for some time!
I finished my first "picture book" a couple of weeks ago, so now I will hopefully take advantage of a little bit more free time and do some more posting! Everyone has been turning out some very impressive stuff and I hope to do the same!
Thanks for your compliments! As for my technique on her dress, I used a lot of wet on wet. I started with a rather light shade of purple, waited just a bit (sometimes I don't wait long at all) then added a bit of an alizarin crimson/purple mixture to the edges (or wherever else I think would make it interesting) to create the shadows and texture. After things dried a bit, I continued adding paint to the same shadows and textures, often blending the color into the center of her dress until it looked the way I want it to. I also tried not to be too realistic when I shaded her hair, using a bit of purple and the other colors I used on her dress to make it interesting and playful. When I do hair, I use the main color along the edges (or where it should be curly or where there is a shine) and use water to thin it out, leaving a bit of white to create the shine. I hope that answers your questions . . . It's kind of hard to describe what is much easier to show. If you have any other questions you need for clarification, feel free to ask! I'm glad you like it.
I just love the little purply princess! She's got so much class and she's beautiful too!!! I just really like her personality which really shine through in the illustration. Great work and I am so glad that you are taking this to the next level my friend. This is all so very wonderful and exciting!!! Great work!

She is so pretty and petite! The purple is such a lovely shade. You can tell she loves pretending.

Great character and colors. She's beautiful! I love your technique. I'm with Ratu on this - I'd love to know how you did this.
